Procera® Dental Crowns

Traditionally, dental crowns were made from porcelain fused to metal (PFM), a reliable and cost-effective option. However, the advent of fully ceramic Procera® crowns has revolutionized dental aesthetics. Procera® crowns function just like traditional crowns but provide a more natural and lifelike appearance due to their all-ceramic composition.

Dental crowns are typically used to strengthen damaged teeth. Whenever possible, preserving a natural tooth is preferable to replacing it with a prosthetic alternative. Procera® crowns are precision-engineered to ensure a perfect fit while restoring both the function and appearance of the injured tooth.

Why Might a Procera® Crown Be Needed?

Unlike most other parts of the body, teeth have limited ability to heal themselves. Once the enamel or tooth surface is damaged, it cannot regenerate naturally. Crowns are used to stabilize compromised teeth and prevent further deterioration. Common causes of enamel damage include trauma, decay, and bacterial infections. Crowns are also often placed following root canal therapy.

Advantages of Procera® Crowns

  • Exact color matching: Procera® crowns are custom-made to match the color of your natural teeth, making the restoration virtually invisible.
  • No metal base: Unlike traditional PFM crowns, Procera® crowns are entirely ceramic, eliminating unsightly metal lines near the gum.
  • Biocompatibility: The crowns are designed to promote gum growth and stability, achieving a natural, symmetrical appearance over time.
  • Custom fitting: Expert technicians create Procera® crowns to fit precisely, ensuring comfort and optimal function.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Getting a Procera® crown is a common and straightforward process. Prior to treatment, X-rays and impressions are taken, and the dentist examines the surrounding teeth and gums to rule out underlying issues.

A local anesthetic is applied while the tooth is shaped to ensure the crown will fit perfectly. Care is taken to protect the surrounding soft tissue. Once prepared, a mold of the tooth is created, and the porcelain color is selected. A temporary crown is placed while the custom Procera® crown is manufactured in the lab.

During the follow-up appointment, the temporary crown is removed, and the tooth is thoroughly cleaned. The permanent Procera® crown is then cemented in place using luting cement, restoring both function and aesthetics to the tooth.
